In the United States over the last several decades, Green Infrastructure (GI) has rapidly evolved from a landscape ecology concept to an applied set of infrastructural technologies focusing on urban stormwater management yet still seeking to deliver multiple functions and benefits. At the same time urban areas have grown tremendously, simultaneously sprawling, concentrating wealth, and concentrating poverty. Based off of a recently completed analysis of over 120 plans from 20 US cities, this talk explores how “we” can plan and design for equity in green infrastructure in an era of rapid social and environmental change.
