National parks are ideal places for ecologists to conduct research and engage the public in science. They feature the full range of natural systems. They are visited by diverse public audiences. They are staffed by admired professionals. And they are beloved, with perhaps the greatest "brand equity" of any federal land system. This Inspire session will feature presentations and discussions with scientists who conduct research in national parks and engage park visitors in a variety of ways -- including citizen science, collaborating with interpreters, digital and social media, visitor center exhibits, school outreach, and more. We’ll explore how ecologists can engage the public, and what lessons can be learned from others’ experiences. The goal is to inspire the audience to include national parks in their future research and engagement activities.
