This talk focuses on the contributions Tony Janetos made to the initiation and launch of the Ecological Forecasting Initiative, an international grassroots consortium aimed at building an interdisciplinary community of practice around near-term, iterative forecasting. Tony was one of the first people involved in EFI’s strategic planning, providing experience and an endless fount of knowledge and connections, as well as support for planning meetings, summer courses, and our first conference. Tony’s legacy at the interface of the natural and social sciences and policy continues in the EFI working groups’ collective effort to link theory to real-world application.
