Research data repositories like the Environmental Data Initiative - which houses data from the LTER network - are addressing technical issues that make it easier for you to find, use and understand data. Here we introduce a few: metadata that allows major search engines like Google to search across many repositories, semantic annotation to assist with both finding and understanding data, visualization tools to help you determine if that data is fit for your particular use, and automated code generators and harmonized formats which greatly speed up your ability to get datasets directly to your processing environment.
