It is no mystery that many graduate students suffer from mental illness. During the first-year of my doctorate, I was overcome with work-related anxiety and depression. I found solitude when I started working hands-on with my study organism, the coastal marsh sedge, Schoenoplectus americanus. In this presentation, I will talk about my own mental health journey and how it relates to peculiar traits in S. americanus.
