INS 4-2 - The long way around to the tenure track

My story illustrates that there is no singular path to a career in ecology; I didn't do anything the right way or in the right order, and yet here I am in a tenure-track job. After one year in a faculty position I seem to know even less than when I started, but for the purposes of this panel I'm going to try and share my experiences with department politics, teaching, maintaining research and the best way to schedule your office hours.
