I will describe my experiences as a first-year tenure-track professor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and now Middlebury College, focusing on: (1) The culture of liberal arts colleges and the students that comprise them; (2) Understanding and managing expectations for teaching and mentorship; (3) Research (yes, we do it!), funding, and how to maintain scholarly productivity at a PUI.
