Graduate students interested in applied research are often unaware that there are opportunities outside of academia to put their expertise and training into practice. Fellowships can be one way for students or recent graduates to gain perspective on careers in the policy sector. In this inspire presentation, a former fellow will share her experience from one such program: the Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Fellowship, offered by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The talk will discuss translating research interests into possible career paths, reflecting on trade-offs and strategies for professional development.
