INS 5-6 - Diversity, inclusion, and environmental justice in ecology

Tuesday, August 7, 2018

The Environmental Justice Section wants to expand ecology by involving ESA members, and ecologists in general, in considering the ecological concepts that are associated with environmental justice issues and their role as ecologists in addressing those issues. We also want ecologists to consider how their research is shaped by environmental justice issues by asking how race, ethnicity, and poverty shape ecological processes and influence access to ecosystem service. Finally, we work to inspire ecologists to develop a participatory and inclusive partnership with local communities that moves beyond the citizen science model.
