The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) program provides opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to conduct research within federal agencies across the country. Participants use and develop their research skills alongside federal scientists to further the mission of the agency. Participants get experience and training in conducting policy-relevant research and translating their research for non-scientists. ORISE positions are located in federal facilities, giving young scientists in-depth experience in seeing how scientists, policy analysts, and policy-makers work together and an up-close understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of working for the federal government.
