Trees in urban ecosystems provide valuable ecosystem services. However, in regions with chronic or episodic drought, a more thorough understanding of the factors that control urban tree water use, growth, water use efficiency and drought resistance is necessary in order to maximize ecosystem services and minimize costs. This presentation will discuss some trends in tree to landscape scale water use and drought responses, using data from a variety of approaches including sapflux, dendrochronology and remote sensing.
