Comics are a fun and useful tool to help engage students in difficult subjects. Designing characters for comics provides one with the opportunity to further engage students by creating characters that relatable to the students. Our goal was to work with various, representative communities to design and develop a diverse, inclusive set of characters to feature in statistical vignettes within Project EDDIE modules. After creating these characters, we obtained feedback from students about each character's name, appearance, and relatability via an online survey. These survey results were used to further improve these characters.
