Jumping into the realm of public engagement can seem daunting at first, but a plan or vision is not always necessary. I will discuss how my journey of public engagement was sparked by the birth of my children, shaped by a fellowship, and culminated in the integration of virtual reality technology into my own research on climate change. I will highlight some of the challenges I faced and offer advice to others who would like to embark upon this difficult but rewarding adventure of engagement.
