Across the fields of environmental and ecological science, coordinated research networks advance our knowledge of the earth system and our ability to predict responses to environmental change. Team science is inherent to collaborative scientific networks. To ensure innovation in ecological data team science, the next generation of scientists must represent a diversity of perspectives. Here we highlight how the Harvard Forest Summer Research Program in Ecology, which is situated at the intersection of multiple research networks (e.g., LTER, NEON, ForestGEO, PhenoCam, AmeriFlux), endeavors to broaden participation in ecological data science by networking students with networks.
