INS 20 Abstract - Integrating large scale soil respiration and other datasets to advance global soil ecology

Ben Bond-Lamberty, JGCRI, PNNL, MD
One of the greatest sources of uncertainty in predictions of Earth’s climate future are carbon-climate feedbacks in the terrestrial carbon cycle, and we are only beginning to leverage observations to understand the processes involved, estimate soil carbon dynamics, and benchmark models. This talk looks at how two ‘open science’ databases of soil respiration, with different goals and at different temporal scales, can be integrated with other datasets to explore potential explanations reconciling terrestrial carbon cycle observations and theory.
