Inclusive engagement for the future is of the utmost importance, rooted in the dissemination of knowledge, creating career opportunities, mentorship and building diverse interdisciplinary partnerships. Promoting inclusive practices ultimately creates a powerful feedback loop to increase retention of underrepresented groups in science. Through this presentation I aim to highlight the importance of providing opportunity for scientists to take leadership on DEIJ issues. By including scientists of all careers stages in these difficult conversations, collectively we can foster support across the Ecological Society, create change and highlight what it means to be an ecologist by sharing multiple perspectives across identities.
