Urban ecology is often presented as sub-field of ecology that is inherently inclusive and diverse. One that will naturally attract people from underrepresented groups because it blends ecological and social sciences to address important questions about cities. In my talk I will critique this presentation of urban ecology by discussing what is meant by inclusion (who we should include and what does it mean to be included) and diversity (why is diversity important and what are the expectations on diverse participants) and address how this discussion is relevant to future work in urban ecology.
