Conflicting scientific theories are often resolved by eventually realizing that both parties have part of the solution to the question. Examples include the balance of nature and competition versus cooperation. An example of how a controversy is resolved by a synthesis of different hypotheses is the question of whether natural selection acts at the level of genes, organisms, or groups? Resolved by conclusion it acts at all three levels (Hale 2014:351).
