Event Description: The Black Ecologists Section seeks to host a business meeting during the 2022 ESA meeting in Montreal. This event is intended to bring together all members of the Black Ecologists Section to discuss a productive plan moving forward in 2023 and beyond. Specifically, our business meeting agenda centers around four discussion questions: (1) how can the Black Ecologists Section grow its membership within ESA, (2) what fundraising efforts can we perform to ensure sustainable and adequate funding to host webinars, workshops, and events in the future, (3) how can we provide a platform to allow for more social interactions amongst our membership, and (4) how can the Black Ecologists Section engage more with Black students are the undergraduate level. These topics are crucial to discuss for ensuring a healthy and thriving section with ESA, particularly given that funding is scarce and growing our membership is fundamental to our mission as a section. Having an in-person meeting will be best given the sensitive nature of some of the discussion questions and topics.
