A lot of science happens in the 423 national park sites across the United States, creating an opportunity to share science stories with hundreds of millions of annual park visitors. The National Park Service has been developing a community of practice for science communication and engagement, with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion. What have park staff and research partners learned so far about communicating science, while also addressing public (mis)understanding of science; the extensive - and often troubling - history of scientific inquiry in parks; and the presentation of science as a way of knowing?
