The ocean can be harsh and unforgiving, and thus, strong relationship-building is necessary to survival this environment. When it comes to cooperative scientific research, relationship-building between coastal locals and scientists is just as important. In this talk, I will discuss my experience as a researcher and storyteller relationship-building with fishermen and aquaculturists. I will focus predominantly on the importance and effectiveness of listening and story-sharing.
