Effectively sharing science involves challenges such as lack of time and training, systemic disincentives, and the complexity of the modern media/attention landscape. We present a framework -- three ways to shift your mindset and approach -- to concretely improve your scicomm efforts. This framework centers on shared values which are then used to articulate science communication goals. Then, you can leverage the power of stories to achieve your communication goals in partnership with stakeholders. This framework includes tools and suggestions you can use right away to state your values, find the values you share with stakeholders, articulate goals for your scicomm work, and then use storytelling to establish and strengthen relationships to achieve those goals.
