Like climate change, non-natives species are here to stay, and we need a better understanding of their potential benefits and how they can be harnessed to meet resilience and sustainability goals. Pairing cities based on the similarity between current and future climate conditions, such as London to Barcelona and Seattle to San Francisco, we compare current urban forest species composition to what it might look like in the near future. Our results could enable decision-makers to develop a more inclusive view of urban nature that includes both native and non-native species maximizing benefits for both people and biodiversity.
