Years of observations have allowed us to untangle some of the mechanisms that determine ecological interactions. We have accomplished this by setting spatially fixed boundaries, even though species move beyond these arbitrary borders. So, how do we define spatial boundaries? The number of ways in which we can divide ecological networks in space is infinite, and yet all networks are somehow connected.
