Incorporating disease ecology in curriculum of landscape architecture and environmental horticulture: Important roles for informal teaching and mentorship in higher education

Landscape epidemiology has received little attention from pathologists and landscape architects. However, advances in technology and methodology provide novel and powerful tools to describe and analyze spatial patterns of host–pathogen interactions. We present a pedagogical framework, including specific exercises for advancing teaching and research of disease ecology within built environments through topics of complexity, systems-thinking, biophilia and resilience.
