Integrating data in Map of Life for Species Population Essential Biodiversity Variable (EBV) development

On Demand
Yanina V. Sica, Yale University;
Geospatial biodiversity records are flourishing. Their model-based integration with environmental data allows the development of global species predictions over time considered Essential Biodiversity Variable (EBV) for Species Distribution. This EBV supports the generation of biodiversity status and trends indicators but relies on infrastructure that enables data management, modelling, and engagement. Map of Life (MOL, https://mol.org/) addresses this by assembling biodiversity data, and facilitating the development of three indicators accessible through MOL: Species Status Information Index, Species Habitat Index, Species Protection Index. They are endorsed by the Convention of Biological Diversity and used in global assessments and decision-support arenas.
