Until recently, synthesis in ecology has relied primarily on accumulating results or data from disparate studies. However, there is increasing recognition of limitations to this approach - such as differences in how researchers measure ecological responses or apply experimental treatments. Both can stymie synthesis efforts. However, a new approach has emerged in ecology – coordinated network science. Such networks can overcome these limitations to powerfully address pressing issues in ecology. In this ignite talk, I will use the Drought-Net International Drought Experiment as an example of the power of network science to address anthropogenic change and to foster networked-team science.
