Background/Question/Methods

This presentation provides an overview of nitrogen management tools that we have developed for organic vegetable growers in the maritime Pacific Northwest, USA.

Results/Conclusions

Our tools 1) forecast plant-available N (PAN) supplied by organic inputs (manures, cover crops, and composts) and 2) assist farmers in monitoring the supply of PAN during the growing season. Organic vegetable growers use these tools to increase crop N utilization efficiency, improve profitability, and reduce nitrate leached to groundwater.
