Limited water availability is commonly described as a major constraint to achieving a desired level of restoration success in arid and semi-arid ecosystems. Maintaining moisture levels through dry periods, whether that is between discrete storm events or extended drought over seasons, has the potential to drastically enhance our ability to facilitate ecosystem services and function. Using our knowledge of plant-soil interactions as a guide this presentation looks at creative ways to enhance moisture availability in arid and semi-arid ecosystems.
