Moderator:
Patricia Balvanera
The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services is an independent intergovernmental body, established by over 100 Member States in 2012, to strengthen the science-policy interface for biodiversity and ecosystem services, for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being and sustainable development. IPBES has produced three thematic assessments, four Regional Assessments of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and one Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. After undergoing internal and external reviews, IPBES has started three new assessments and will launch further assessments in 2020. This session is aimed at: 1) sharing the most relevant conceptual and methodological contributions of IPBES to science and to decision making; 2) illustrating how IPBES is having an impact on policy; and 3) informing ESA attendees about how they can be involved.
