The WaterViz integrates art, music and science to foster new scientific discoveries while simultaneously promoting education, conservation and shared stewardship of natural resources. This program of research: 1) fuses real-time environmental sensor data with art and music to create data visualizations and musical sonifications of the water cycle at two research stations in the U.S.; 2) employs neurobiological tools to provide a mechanistic understanding for why the integration of arts and science can increase ecological understanding; and 3) uses the data visualizations and sonifications as an innovative approach to educating the public about water science and environmental literacy.
