Patterns in plant-animal mutualistic networks arise from processes that are dynamic in space and time at various scales, yet representations of these networks in studies until recently were typically static. An increasing number of studies have considered the spatial and temporal dimensions of these networks. This talk will provide context for this session by showing how spatiotemporal considerations can allow a deeper understanding of ecological and evolutionary processes that structure these systems and how they are affected by human impacts. The talks that follow will showcase current research in this area across scales.
