Description: The Latin American Chapter is planning to meet again with members of the Scientific Mexican Ecological Society (SCME in spanish), the Brazilian Ecological Society and members at the Latin American Chapter mixer on Tuesday, August 13, 2018 from 6:30-8:00 pm at ESA’s 104rd meeting. This mixer will feature a business meeting for sharing news, achievements and opportunities within the Chapter, followed by the presentation of the winners of the student scholarships given by the Latin American Chapter. The objective of the Latin American Chapter is to promote interactions with colleagues working in ecological issues in Latin America. We seek to establish collaborations and novel ways to address common goals, emerging challenges, and to develop join projects to promote concrete interactions among ecological societies. The agenda for the mixer will be: A.Plan a joint Simposia about “Migratory species across north America: natural bridges or artifitial barriers” between ESA and the next meeting of the Mexican Ecological Society. B. Discuss possible strategies for Latin American Ecologists to have a stronger voice in policy issues. For example, ESA and SCME could jointly develop specific workshops on policy environmental issues that relate to USA and Mexico (i.e NAFTA environmental issues). C. Define the guidelines of a program to provide scholarships for Latin American students to attend future ESA meetings funded by the Latin American Chapter. F. The Latin American Chapter of ESA proposes an expansion of the SEEDS program Latin American students and for field trips and field courses to develop in Latin America.
