Many ecological research projects aim to inform management and policy. However, researchers rarely engage managers and policy makers during their study, and results don’t always reach their intended audience. How can researchers maximize the likelihood that managers will be aware of their work and act on the results? For researchers not already working with resource managers, it can be difficult to find and establish relationships with managers, figure out what research they really need, and communicate research results in ways that are helpful to inform management actions. This process can be frustrating to managers, too - they generally want to base their decisions on science, but have difficulty finding the time to sift through the latest scientific literature.

During the workshop, participants will generate their own plans for working with managers - how to contact them, identify management needs, refine project designs to ensure relevance to management, and communicate results so that managers and policymakers are most likely to act on them. The workshop will also feature case studies and data from a survey of researchers and scientists about needs for climate adaptation research.

Registration Fee: $30
