Many citizen science activities focus on local environments. Connecting those local observations to regional, continental, and global scales is necessary for communities to understand their own situation within a planetary system. Started in 1994, the GLOBE Program has provided kindergarten-through-college educators and students with materials, science protocols, technology infrastructure, and support for in-depth analysis of Earth. GLOBE participants have produced nearly 150 million science measurements across 122 countries to date. This presentation will share how the GLOBE Observer framework is now being extended from formal education systems to engage local decision-makers and community members to create synergistic community observation systems.
