The advent of consumer-level unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, is democratizing remote sensing and allowing academics, professionals, and citizens to address pressing scientific and societal questions.Getting the technology into the hands of users is critical for improving well-being, but there are myriad legal, ethical and economic challenges for adoption along with barriers associated with poverty and digital illiteracy. This INSPIRE talk will discuss these challenges within the context of improving human well-being and focus on how citizen science can position citizens to respond to complex social and environmental problems.
