Botanic gardens around the world have responded to the UN’s challenge to restore 15 percent of the world’s degraded ecosystems by 2020 by forming the Ecological Restoration Alliance of Botanic Gardens (ERA).The ERA, coordinated by Botanic Gardens Conservation International and with 40 botanic gardens across six continents, will build capacity for restoration, including setting up 100 demonstration sites that restore degraded areas, providing training, and communicating the value of adopting a science-based approach to ecological restoration. A new generation of industry and government practitioners will be trained through expert guidance toward best practices for land restoration.
