A day at work in a science-for-policy non-profit may look like any other, but it is anything but. On any given day, in addition to working on data and reports, I am likely to be (1) giving an interview over the phone or Skype to a newspaper, radio, or TV; (2) recording an interview at a TV or radio studio – or (gasp!) doing a live segment; (3) chatting at a retirement community or town hall about science in politics; (4) giving a talk to an audience of environmentalists about ecological systems and services that can be disrupted or eliminated by climate change; (5) speaking at a mentoring panel for students about careers outside of ecology; or (6) my favorite, speaking at a rally somewhere to defend science.
