Changing environments not only drive shifts in ranges and abundance, but also interactions among species. These interactions may be positive (e.g., dispersal, facilitation, pollination) or negative (e.g., predation, herbivory, competition), and play an important role in ecological and evolutionary processes. Despite their importance, ecological interactions have been challenging to identify in the fossil record. From bones and models to poop and scales, new conceptual and methodological approaches are allowing us to explore the relationships among organisms in the fossil record. This talk will highlight recent advances and emerging frontiers in understanding biotic interactions in paleorecords.
