While countries like Mexico are rich in biological diversity and in enthusiastic young researchers and students, sometimes it is difficult to implement molecular methods and in particular one important bottleneck has been the informatic analyses. We will discuss how we have advanced with different international and national collaborations, using examples of our research with wild maize (teosinte) understanding its past evolution, future adaptations to global chance and the origin and domestication of cultivated maize. Also we will show similar advances in a large project with squashes, and a genomic study of the adaptions to nectar feeding in birds and bats.
