Identifying the winners and losers of land-use intensification (LUI) is important to adapt conservation measures and better link changes in biodiversity to ecosystem processes. In grasslands, LUI not only decreases the number of species, it also changes composition, homogenizes multi-trophic communities, and weakens the associations between groups. In forests, the story is more complicated and some aspects of management even increase richness and abundance of certain groups. The Exploratories provide opportunities to continue unpacking both LUI and biodiversity to understand global change effects on biodiversity.
