Science is not transformative. It is scientists who are transformative or at least we can be. We are in an era where ecological processes are increasingly threatened by anthropogenic activities and even the very capacity to study such phenomena are being compromised by an ill-informed political landscape. As such, there is an urgency, a fierce urgency now for ecologists to highlight our relevance. We must redefine impact, repackage our scholarship, and reimagine our criteria for excellence.
