Research impact is used extensively for evaluation and assessment in academia, is traditionally measured by citations to journal publications, and is quantified through Article Level Metrics. This practice provides little, if any recognition for other important research outcomes such as data and software products. The Make Data Count project aims to correct this imbalance by openly providing standards and infrastructure necessary to report Data Level Metrics for tracking and reporting citation and use of these additional scholarly contributions. As a result, researchers can be assured all their contributions to scholarly progress are fully acknowledged.
