Data exist beyond the life span of an individual research project and have their own life cycle, from planning through collection, quality control and description to preservation, discovery, integration and analysis. The Data Life Cycle (DLC) provides a high-level overview of the stages required for successful curation and preservation of data and serves as a framework for managing data-intensive research.
