How can we use the law to protect carnivorous plants such as Venus flytraps? Within and between states, anti-poaching laws and the Lacey Act prohibit the illegal collection and movement of certain species. At the national level, Endangered Species Act listing is helpful as it provides tools to focus on habitat conservation. More broadly, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species prevents overexploitation of plants across borders. Understanding the mechanics of these laws can augment conservation efforts in the United States and worldwide.
