Whether we work with undergrads or graduate students, as mentors, we want our students to move forward towards “bigger and better” things. An increased likelihood exists for MS and PhD students to remain within research communities, but undergraduates often scatter. Following graduation, faculty tears of joy can quickly turn into tears of frustration because the undergraduate’s research still needs “to graduate” to publication. This time frame leaves little opportunity to complete research and get it published before the student leaves. This “inspire” talk will identify key challenges associated with collaboration after graduation and offer practical strategies to graduate the science.
