There are many different ways that undergraduate students can contribute to research projects. Using examples from opposite ends of the spectrum: a student might work intensively with a PI over several years on a project, resulting in a complete project that is a publishable unit; other times, a variety of different undergraduates work on related projects that combine to yield one cohesive unit. In this talk, I will present different approaches that I’ve used to involve undergraduates in research in my lab. I will also talk about how things have changed as I have moved from beginning to mid-career investigator.
