Do ecologists replicate their research? I found that at least for behavioral ecologists, the answer was no, or least, sort of no, when I addressed this question a decade ago. Behavioural ecologists were quite proficient at conceptual replication but tended to ignore exact replications. This is odd considering that studies in behavioural ecology should be ideal for replication since they are often performed in the laboratory on a relatively small number of model species. Ten years later, I again address this question in light of widespread awareness and recognition that replication is critical to advancing scientific knowledge.
