I love public outreach and social media, and wanted to create a blog about social insects and the amazing things they do by working in groups. The problem? Time. Starting a tenure-track job at a liberal arts college, I felt like outreach had to take a back seat to teaching new courses and setting up my research lab. I solved this problem by teaching my students to blog about science, both in my courses and when working in my lab. The result? Students learn to write in a new way, and my outreach work counts as teaching and mentorship.
