As the quality and length of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data record has grown, the application of these data to ecological questions has also expanded. The NASA Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) currently holds dozens of unique MODIS data products of interest to the ecological community, including those related to vegetation amount, leaf area index, productivity, land cover, and fire. As these products and their applications have evolved, so too have the tools for data access.

This workshop will provide participants with the most current view of MODIS land data, including information on changes for version 6, deciphering pixel quality metrics, and plans for extending the data record. We will also demonstrate both standard and specialized tools for accessing MODIS data, with an emphasis on new web services for extracting analysis-ready samples from the archive. A packet containing presentation materials and hand-on exercises will be distributed to workshop participants for future reference. All are welcome; no specialized knowledge is required to participate.

Registration Fee: $25
